Wesley Van Rite, P.E.

I’ve spent over two decades in the world of Building Science and had the opportunity to learn from and work with the best.  Collaborating on high performance building projects is truly a passion of mine.  I’ve come to the point that, as professionals in the construction industry, I believe we have an obligation and ethical responsibility to build better.  We have the technology, resources, and knowledge to produce higher-quality buildings that are more resilient and efficient without significantly increasing the cost.  Why would we continue to allow a lower standard of quality when we know how to do better?

The reality is those of us who are in the construction industry are likely working on projects that will still be standing long after we’re gone – at least they should be.  What we are building now will be inherited by multiple generations.  We have an obligation to make sure those buildings are safe and strong for many decades to come.  This is what the proper application of Building Science can do for us.

My goal, my passion, is to influence projects to bring them to a higher level of quality and performance.  It’s not hard and it doesn’t cost a lot of money.  It does require the ability to consider different techniques and practices.

EPC has three core components to our value statement:

  • Engineered Projects Consulting, LLC

    QUALITY

EPC utilizes a process that is established during the design phase and implemented during construction to verify that quality objectives are met. The purpose is to ensure that the functional components of a building meet the owner’s quality requirements. This means that systems are designed, manufactured, and installed in a way that is consistent with best practices.

    PERFORMANCE

The building as a whole should have established expectations for performance. This can be evaluated in terms of resource use, comfort, etc. These performance expectations are established with the owner and drive the selection of systems during the design phase.

Functional testing ensures systems are installed and perform as expected. After construction is complete, measurement and verification are used to check performance against baselines and to quickly identify problems.

    INTEGRITY

Generally, the saying “you get what you pay for” holds true. A higher cost of construction should result in a higher quality end product. EPC makes sure the owner gets what they paid for by verifying that systems are provided and installed as designed. EPC works together with the design team, contractors and owner to facilitate communication and coordination throughout the project.

At the core of my passion is the art of crafting high-performance projects for owners and architects. I specialize in delving into the critical components, ensuring each aspect is thoughtfully designed and meticulously executed. Unlike conventional approaches that settle for average, my commitment is to bring excellence to every project.
